A popular feature of Revolut remains its free ATM withdrawals, allowing users to withdraw cash up to a certain amount each month without fees. This raises questions about how it works in practice and what happens with Hungary's "free cash withdrawal declaration."Depending on the Revolut plan, a monthly fee-free ATM limit is provided:
- Standard / Plus: smaller limit (typically around 75,000 HUF)
- Premium: higher limit (around 150,000 HUF)
- Metal / Ultra: even higher limits
Beyond this limit, a fee of approximately 2% or a minimum fixed amount is generally charged.
In Hungary, there is a separate legal benefit allowing monthly fee-free ATM withdrawals up to a certain amount (150,000 HUF until 2026, then 300,000 HUF, with 150,000 HUF per transaction, 2 transactions per month) if you declare it at a bank.
The key point often misunderstood:
- This benefit can only be applied at one bank at a time.
- If you wish to use it at another bank or provider, the previous one is canceled.
- Thus, it is not "active everywhere at once," but only active in one place at a time.
What does this mean for Revolut?
The benefit typically applies to Hungarian bank accounts. Revolut, as an EU fintech bank, is not always treated the same as a Hungarian bank account.
In practice:
- many use the declaration with their Hungarian bank
- and manage the Revolut ATM limit separately
What happens if you "transfer" the benefit?
If you request free cash withdrawal at another bank (or provider):
- the previous request automatically terminates
- it does not run concurrently in two places
- and you must reactivate it if you want it back
