In July 2026, at the MagicCon Amsterdam event, the latest expansion for Magic: The Gathering was announced, set in the universe of The Hobbit, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic tale. During the announcement, players were introduced to exciting new cards designed to refresh game strategies. As the August release date approaches, players are already getting a glimpse into the world of these new cards.
The expansion features two new rare cards, including a powerful green spell and a creature card that fits well into 'mill' strategies across various formats. The first card, Part In Friendship, can resurrect creatures that have fallen in battle, offering players new tactical possibilities.
The Part In Friendship card requires six mana, including four generic and one green. It has the following ability:
- When one of your non-token creatures dies, reveal cards from the top of your library until you find a creature card. If its mana value is less than or equal to the number of lands you control, it enters the battlefield. Otherwise, it goes into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. This ability can only be activated once each turn.
Bilbo's visit to Thorin on his deathbed is transformed into a powerful spell that immediately replaces a fallen creature, allowing players to employ new tactics during battles.
For the Magic: The Gathering community, this expansion offers not just new cards but also a fresh narrative that connects players with the beloved Tolkien universe. As these cards are revealed, players are already strategizing for upcoming tournaments.
